Edward Kwame Wiredu

Edward Kwame Wiredu (* around 1934, † 31 January 2008 ) was a leading lawyer and politician in Ghana. He had between 2001 and 2003, during the first term of President John Agyekum Kufuor held the post of Chief Justice of Ghana and thus the highest judicial office in the country and a constitutional key position.

Wiredu was followed on 9 November 2001 at the age of 67 years at the time as the tenth Chief Justice of Ghana since independence (as Chief Justice 22 products) Isaac Kobina Abban in 2001 in office and was itself replaced by George Kingsley Acquah on 20 June 2003. Wiredu had to go abroad due to a serious illness in one treatment.

Wiredu renowned as an advocate of the independence of the judicial branch of government and parliament. He denied massively against interference and intervention by the executive. In 2002, he ran into opposition to the Treasury, whom he accused of undermining the constitutional right to an independent judiciary by low budget for the areas of the judiciary.
