Kobina Arku Korsah

Sir Kobina Arku Korsah (* 1894, † 1967) was the last Chief Justice of the British Gold Coast colony (1956 to 6 March 1957) and the first Chief Justice of Ghana. Korsah the first Ghanaian was in the post of Chief Justice of the colony of the Gold Coast; then he served on the independence of Ghana in March 1957 until his dismissal in December 1963.

Career

The lawyer Korsah was in 1942 with William Ofori Atta one of the first two Ghanaians who were appointed to the judicial service under Governor Sir Alan Burns.

In 1959 Korsah was one of the 25 founding members of the Ghana Academy of Arts Sciences, at that time still under the name Ghana Academy of Learning ( until 1961 ).

As Chief Justice was Korsah presiding judge in the trial of accused from the bomb attack against Ghana's first president Kwame Nkrumah in 1962. According to the process Nkrumah dismissed the Chief Justice in December 1963, in violation of the Constitution of 1960, at the age of 69 years out of office.
