George Kingsley Acquah

George Kingsley Acquah ( born March 6, 1942 in Sekondi, † March 25, 2007 in Accra ) was a Ghanaian lawyer and politician. Acquah was active until his death, Chief Justice of Ghana and thus in a high court judge.

Childhood, youth, training

Acquah was born in Sekondi in the Western Region. In Cape Coast, he attended the College Adisadel 1957-1963 for his secondary education (Secondary School).

For about a year Acquah taught at Sekondi College and went on 1964-1967 at the University of Ghana, Legon, Accra. Here he enrolled as a student and graduated with a Bachelor ( Hons ) in Philosophy from. In 1970, Acquah was the LL.B. ( Bachelor's degree) in law also awarded by the University of Ghana. At the Ghana Law School, Accra, he completed his training as a lawyer and was admitted in 1972 to the Bar Association.

Career

Acquah worked after completing law school in 1972 as an attorney in Cape Coast until September 19, 1989 Judge of the High Court in Ho in the Volta Region has been appointed. In 1994 he was appointed to the Court of Appeal Appeal Court Judge and a year later, was appointed by the supreme court of Jerry Rawlings in Ghana, the Supreme Court. In 2003 he was appointed on 4 July by President John Agyekum Kufuor in the office of the Chief Justice, a position he held until his death.

Acquah, making it the thirteenth Chief Justice of independent Ghana and a total of 23 Chief Justice of the country. He followed Edward Kwame Wiredu in office. Acquah is in the history of Ghana, the first Chief Justice, who has spent his entire education in Ghana.

Acquah was given the highest honor of the State of Ghana with the awarding of the Order of the Star of Ghana ( Order of the Star of Ghana) in June 2006. Acquah held next to his judgeship steadily different positions and items. Among these are the following call:

Family, death

Acquah died on 25 March 2007 at the age of 65 at 1:00 clock at night in the military hospital of the military base 37 in Accra, Ghana, probably as the result of a two years earlier discovered cancer. He is survived by his widow Jane Acquah and six children together.
