Egon Schöpf
Egon scoop ( born October 16, 1925 in Innsbruck ) is a former Austrian alpine skier. He won the bronze medal in the downhill at the World Cup 1950.
Career
Pumping began early with the skiing and celebrated the beginning of the 1940s some success at youth level. His career was initially interrupted by the Second World War. The end of 1946 he returned after two years of captivity back to his home and began studying at the University of Innsbruck. First major successes came in the Academic World Championship 1947 in Davos, where he won the title in the downhill, slalom and combined. That same winter he also became Austrian Champion in slalom.
In the 1947/48 season scooping won the slopes in Villars, on the Monte Canin and on the Marmolada and the slalom in Seefeld. In Bad Hofgastein he was Austrian Champion in slalom and combined. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1948 in St. Moritz, it remained without a medal: In the descent, he came in fifth place in the slalom and sixth. The combination he could not finish. In the winter of 1948/49, scooping celebrated his greatest successes in the Hahnenkamm race in Kitzbühel, where he decided all events for themselves as well as at the Austrian Championships, where he won all three titles in downhill, slalom and combined. At the World Cup 1950 in Aspen Tyrolean won the bronze medal in the downhill behind the Italian Zeno Colò and the Frenchman James Couttet. After his marriage he built the Hotel Edelweiss in St. Anton am Arlberg scratch.
