Eleonore Wilhelmine of Anhalt-Köthen

Eleonore Wilhelmine of Anhalt- Köthen ( born May 7, 1696 Köthen; † August 30, 1726 in Weimar) was a princess of Anhalt- Köthen and succession by marriage Princess of Saxe - Merseburg and Duchess of Saxe- Weimar.

Life

Eleonore Wilhelmine was the eldest daughter of Prince Emanuel Lebrecht of Anhalt- Köthen (1671-1704) from his marriage with Gisela Agnes of Rath, Countess of Nienburg ( 1669-1740 ). She married her first husband on February 15, 1714 in Köthen Prince Friedrich Erdmann of Saxe- Merseburg ( 1691-1714 ), who was apanagiert on the occasion of this marriage with the Office Dieskau but already died unexpectedly fourteen weeks after the wedding.

Eleonore Wilhelmine married in second marriage on 24 January 1716 in Nienburg with Duke Ernst August I of Saxony- Weimar ( 1688-1748 ). During the wedding festivities learned Eleonore Wilhelmine's brother Leopold to Johann Sebastian Bach working in Weimar know who brought him as Kapellmeister to Köthen. Eleonore Wilhelmine also served as godmother for Bach's son Leopold August.

The marriage to Ernst August has been described as happy. In their ten years of marriage she gave birth to seven children. After the birth of the Prince the Primogeniturordnung was established in the country. Eleonore Wilhelmine's death met Ernst August so hard that he left Weimar and went on extended trips. The Duchess was buried in the royal crypt Weimar.
