Ellendale is located in southern Minnesota at 43 ° 52'22 " north latitude and 93 ° 18'05 " west longitude. The site covers an area of 2.49 km ².

History

In 1900, a stretch of the former Burlington, Cedar Rapids and Northern Railway reached the area around the present site. The railway company buys land from a local farmer for a new city the plant. The newly founded town was named after Ellendale Ellen Dale Ives, the wife of the president of the railroad company.

In 1901 the newly founded town was incorporated as an independent municipality. At that time the town had about 200 residents, a post office, several Mietställe, a meat market, two grain elevators, a lumberyard and other businesses. A slaughterhouse was built south of the station.

1910 Ellendale already had about 400 inhabitants. A two-storey school building of brick was erected in the same year. In 1922 the building was extended after several surrounding schools were merged to form a center.
