Emanuel Pogatetz (born 16 January 1983 in Graz, Styria ) is an Austrian football player at the position of central defender and player of the national team of Austria.

Association

Beginnings in Austria

Pogatetz began his career in the youth of the SK Sturm Graz, where he also signed his first professional contract in May 2000. He moved in the summer in the First Division for FC Kärnten, with which he ascended in the first season in the highest league and won the OFB Cup.

Transferred to Bayer Leverkusen and loan to Austria

Hannover 96

For the season 2010/11 Hanover undertook 96 Pogatetz. He signed a contract until 2013. His Bundesliga debut Pogatetz on the opening day of that season in a 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt. Pogatetz was from the beginning a regular player with Karim Haggui in central defense, the Hanoverian. His first Bundesliga he scored 29 October 2011 against Borussia Mönchengladbach. In February 2012, his contract was extended until 30 June 2015.

Change to VfL Wolfsburg

For the 2012/13 season Pogatetz moved to VfL Wolfsburg, after he had lost his place to Mario Eggimann in after the winter break of the 2011/12 season and with Felipe got an additional competitors. He signed a contract until 2015. Located in Wolfsburg Pogatetz could not be translated and did not come after 8 Matchday used.

To get more match practice again, Pogatetz changed on 28 January 2013 to end of the season on loan in the Premier League for the London club West Ham United; the deal also includes an option to buy.

Change to 1 FC Nuremberg

For the 2013/14 season Pogatetz moved permanently to 1 FC Nuremberg. Simultaneously, the Swiss defender Timm Klose moved in the other direction.

National

On May 18, 2002 Pogatetz debuted in the Austrian national team in the game against Germany.

On 9 September 2006, he was temporarily excluded after a defeat against Venezuela from the Austrian national team from OFB after publicly criticizing coach Josef Hickersberger. Pogatetz was convened by Hickersberger in the squad for the 2008 European Championship. Through a FIFA rule change Pogatetz could serve a two-match suspension in friendly international matches. Thus he was eligible to play for the EURO 2008. On March 26, 2009 Pogatetz was appointed team manager Dietmar Constantini as the new captain of the Austrian national team.
