Emi Wada

Emi Wada (Japanese和田 惠 美, Wada Emi, actually: Wada Emiko (和田 恵 美 子) Birth Name: Noguchi Emiko (野 口 恵 美 子), born March 18, 1937 in Kyoto, Japan ) is a Japanese costume designer, for among other things, an Oscar best Costume Design won.

Life

Emiko Noguchi, who is married to the director Ben Wada and under the name Emi Wada became known started her career in the film industry as a costume designer in 1973 under the Musical Adventure Marco and previously served in the costume outfit of around thirty films.

After a twelve-year hiatus, she designed the costumes for the 1985 film Ran by Akira Kurosawa Tatsuya Nakadai with, Akira Terao and Jinpachi Nezu in the lead roles and won it at the Oscar ceremony 1986 Oscar for Best Costume Design. She was also nominated for this award for the best costumes for the British Academy Film.

For a produced by the PBS television performance of Igor Fyodorovich Stravinsky opera oratorio Oedipus Rex it won together with Julie Taymor in 1993 an Emmy for outstanding individual performance in costume design. 1998 won Emi Wada for the first time Hong Kong Film Award for Best Costume and Makeup Design, and indeed for the romantic period drama song jia huang chao ( 1997) by Mabel Cheung Maggie Cheung, Michelle Yeoh and Vivian Wu in the roles of Soong sisters song Qingling, Song Ailing, and Song Meiling.

Another Hong Kong Film Award for Best Costume and Makeup Design she received in 2003 for the Action Adventure Hero ( Ying Xiong, 2002) by Zhang Yimou starring Jet Li, Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Maggie Cheung.

In 2005 she was nominated for House of the Flying Daggers (2004) Yimou Zhang of Ziyi Zhang, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Andy Lau for the Saturn Award for Best Costume Design. At the same time this received another nomination for the BAFTA Film Award for the best costumes as well as for a Golden Satellite Award for Best Costume Design.

For Wu Qingyuan (2006) by Zhuangzhuang Tian Chen Chang, Sylvia Chang and Akira Emoto it was first time in 2007 nominated for an Asian Film Award for Best Production designer.

Another nominated for an Asian Film Award she received in 2010 for best costume designer for the historical action drama Lang zai ji ( 2009) by Tian Zhuangzhuang with Maggie Q, and Chung Hua Tou Jō Odagiri. In addition, she was nominated for this film at the Golden Horse Film Festival 2009 for a Golden Horse Award for Best Makeup and Costume Design.

Last Emi Wada, 2011 was nominated Award for Best Costume and Makeup Design for another Hong Kong film, and indeed for the action film Jianyu ( 2010) by Chao- Bin Su with Michelle Yeoh, Woo- sung Jung and Kelly Lin.
