Emilíana Torrini

Emilíana Torrini ( born May 16, 1977) is an Icelandic singer, composer and music producer.

Life

Emilíana Torrini grew up as the daughter of an Italian innkeeper and one Icelander on Kópavogur, the second largest city of Iceland. Age of seven, she sang in a choir. During vacation stays at her aunt and uncle in Morfelden- Walldorf she learned German. The impressions gained on her travels, she processed in self-composed songs. From the age of 15 she trained as an opera school. In 1994 she took with the band Spoon on the eponymous album.

Torrini was a member of the band GusGus and participated in the singing part of Polydistortion (1997). The song Why this album is yet to listen to their concerts.

In 1999, she attracted attention worldwide with the album Love in the Time of Science. Because of their origin and the timbre of her voice, she was often compared by critics to Björk, her label colleague at One Little Indian Records. Torrini but distanced himself from the beginning of this comparison.

2000 appeared the CD Stuck Between Rock and a Hard Place - a project with four other artists under the name of NUD. 2001, her song To Be Free was used for the movie Crazy / Beautiful. In 2002 she sang for the film The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Gollum 's Song, the title song and was a guest vocalist on the album The Richest Man in Babylon by Thievery Corporation.

In 2004 she was nominated for the composition and production of Kylie Minogue's hit Slow for a Grammy. In 2005 they released their fifth album Fisherman 's Woman, on the Emilíana Torrini presents itself from a completely different musical side. The songs are mostly accompanied only by acoustic guitar, no electronic aids. In the same year Torrini was a member of the jury at the Venice Film Festival.

Their album Me and Armini, which in its pop-oriented alignment differs from the previous works, appeared in 2008. From this album comes Torrinis in Germany so far most successful song Jungle Drum, which was published in March 2009 in Germany.
