Emperor Jomei

Jomei (Japanese舒明 天皇, Jomei - tennō; born April 17, 593, † 17 November 641 ) was the 34th Tenno of Japan and ruled from 629 to 641

He was the grandson of Bidatsu - tennō (敏达 天皇) and both maternal and paternal, as his parents - Prince Oshisakahikohito -no- Ōe and Princess Nukate -hime - siblings were.

The Empire Chronicles deliver that Jomei after he had granted three tax decrees, suffered from leaky thatched roofs, because the proceeds were not sufficient for repairs. He had his Imperial Palace in Asuka- kyō in Nara prefecture, but moved frequently during his reign between palaces to:

  • 630: ( Asuka ) Okamoto -no- miya (鵤 冈本 宫)
  • 636: Tanaka -no- miya
  • 640: Umayasaka -no- miya
  • 640: Kudara -no- miya (outside Asuka's in today Koryo ).

Together with his wife Takara no himemiko, which was a granddaughter of his father Oshisakahikohito -no- Ōe and thus his niece, whom he had three children:

  • Prince Naka -no- Ōe (中 大兄 皇子), from 661 - tennō Tenji (天 智 天皇)
  • Prince Ōama (大海 人 皇子), from 672 Temmu - tennō (天 武天皇)
  • Princess Hashihito, married to Kōtoku - tennō (孝 徳 天皇)

His wife followed him after his death as 641 Kōgyoku - tennō after and his son Naka -no- Ōe was the Crown Prince.
