Encounters at the End of the World

Encounters at the End of the World is a 2007 documentary film by Werner Herzog turned. The film tells the story of people and places in Antarctica and had its world premiere on September 1, 2007 at the Telluride Film Festival.

Content

Duke and the Austrian cinematographer Peter Zeitlinger go to Antarctica to meet people who live and work there, as well as visit some of the most remarkable places on the continent. The start is at the McMurdo Station at the southern tip of Ross Island. Other objectives include the original preserved station of Ernest Shackleton, the South Pole and Mount Erebus.

Criticism

The film was well received by critics than average. So wrote about the American film critic Roger Ebert: " A poem of singular beauty. Awards

Werner Herzog's film was nominated for 81 Academy Awards in 2009 for the documentary prize, but had opposite James Marsh's Man on Wire in the cold. More nominations followed with the American Gotham Awards, Independent Spirit Awards and Satellite Awards.
