Enrico Zuccalli

Enrico Zuccalli, actually Johann Heinrich Zuccalli (c. 1642 Roveredo ( canton of Grisons ), † March 8, 1724 in Munich) was a Swiss architect and builder.

Life

His extensive training learned Zuccalli at his brother Gasparo Zuccalli by which it was also possible for him to come to Munich in 1669.

Here Zuccalli 1673 kurbayerischer court architect in Bavaria as successor by Agostino Barelli. He took over the construction sites and completed the Theatinerkirche in Munich and Nymphenburg Palace. 1677 Zuccalli was promoted to senior architect, in 1689 he was promoted to Hofkammerrat.

Designed between 1684 and 1688 and built Zuccalli the pleasure castle home in the park of Schloss Schleißheim. 1695 he went to Liege and then came to Bonn, where he was to build a residential palace by Elector Joseph Clemens of Bavaria, the Electoral Palace. 1697, the foundation stone of the castle, which was, however, only completed in 1715 by Robert de Cotte. With its vast dimensions, it is one of the monumental architecture of the European baroque. Zuccalli was relieved of all his posts in 1706 due to the Austrian administration in Bavaria and lived until 1714 in the Ettal monastery.

Zuccallis buildings are influenced by the Italian High Baroque. This style originated in 1696 the first plans a summer residence of the Electors in Schleißheim. 1701 was the official start of construction; completed but it was by Joseph Effner. Further works are the Palais Porcia in Munich ( 1693).

With about 80 years Enrico Zuccalli died on 8 March 1724 in Munich. He is regarded as the chief representative of the Munich High Baroque.
