Ercan Airport ( IATA code ECN, ICAO code LCEN ) is the most important regional airport in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. It is located about 18 kilometers southeast of Nicosia. The airport was the first airport in Nicosia and has been built in the time of British rule. It is named after the 1974 Turkish invasion fallen pilots Fehmi Ercan. During the recent construction and renovation of the terminal air traffic over the east airport Gecitkale was settled.

Currently, flights to and from Ercan only possible with a stopover in Turkey, as Turkey is the only state which recognizes TRNC. Therefore, no non-stop flights between other countries and the airport Ercan are possible. Even Turkish airlines are forced to make a stopover in Turkey; the now inactive Cyprus Turkish Airlines also changed the flight number.

Destinations

Usually, only the airlines Turkish Airlines, Onur Air, Pegasus Airlines, SunExpress Atlasjet and operate the Ercan airport. Even the now insolvent company Istanbul Airlines flying to Ercan. By April 2013, Onur Air will fly to Kassel -Calden.
