Eredivisie (ice hockey)

The ice hockey Eredivisie is the highest division in the Dutch ice hockey. Below the Eredivisie Eerste which will be held divisie.

History

After the Second World War, the League at that time just three participating teams was established masters in the first season, 1945/46, the HHIJC The Hague. Between 1949 and 1964, the game mode was made up completely, then followed by a new beginning. Over the next few years the league was increased again by another team, the culmination of ten participating teams was first achieved in the 1971/72 season. Since hockey in the Netherlands, not the most popular sports, such as football, is one, but the number of teams fluctuated due to economic problems to this day strong. The final climax was reached with ten teams in the 1993/94 season, the absolute low point of the last years in 2003 /04 reached when only four teams participated in the league play. Record champion of the League, the Tilburg Trappers with twelve league titles.

In the seasons 2010/11 and 2011/ 12, together with the teams of hockey Eredivisie ( Belgium ) of the North Sea Cup was played. Since 2012, Belgian teams in the Dutch Eredivisie can participate.

Mode

Initially, the teams play in a regular season against each other, the top four teams after the end of the season games meet in the play-offs first in a semifinal, then in the final in a best- of-five series to each other to play off the title.

Parallel to the season will take place with the Challenge Cup in addition instead of a cup competition in which the teams divisie the Eredivisie and the next lower league, the Eerste participate.
