Eric Larson

Eric Cleon Larson ( born September 3, 1905 in Cleveland, Utah, † 25 October 1988 in La Cañada Flintridge, California ) was an American animator and one of Disney 's Nine Old Men

Life

Eric Larson was born in 1905 in Cleveland. After high school, he studied journalism at the University of Utah. There he gained his first experience as an editor of the campus magazine and sketch artist for the Deseret News. He then traveled through America as a freelancer and has worked for various newspapers before he came to Los Angeles in 1933.

He first developed for the local radio station KHJ the Serial The Trail of the Viking before he sent some of his designs at the Walt Disney Studios as recommended by a friend and was hired as an assistant animator.

In the coming years, he worked on numerous short and feature films and television series for Disney. In his last years he consulted as an animation consultant younger animators at work, looking at art schools as a scout for new talent for the studio.

After 52 years at Disney, he moved in 1986 back into retirement. He died on 25 October 1988 in La Cañada Flintridge, California.

He was posthumously honored with the Disney Legends Award in 1989.
