Eric Namesnik

Eric John Namesnik ( born August 7, 1970 in Butler, Pennsylvania, † January 11, 2006 in Ypsilanti, Michigan ) was an American swimmer. From the early 1990s, he was one of the best swimmers in the world situation.

Namesnik belonged from 1989 to 1993 the swim team at the University of Michigan. His breakthrough to the international world leaders succeeded him in 1991, when he over 200 and 400 meters individual medley won the silver medal at the World Swimming Championships in Perth. At the Olympic Games in 1992 and 1996, he won two silver medals over 400 meters individual medley. In between, he won at the World Championships 1994 Bronze 400 meters individual medley. Namesnik was the first American swimmer who undercut the mark of 4:15:00 minutes over 400 meters. Overall, he succeeded in his career four times to improve the U.S. record on this track.

After ending his playing career, he worked at the University of Michigan as an assistant swimming coach Jon Urbanchek. On January 7, 2006 Namesnik accident with his car in Pittsfield Township heavily on icy roads. Four days later he succumbed to his injuries at the age of 35 years.

Namesnik leaves behind a wife and two children.
