Eric Person

Eric Anthony person ( born 2 May 1963 in St. Louis ) is an American saxophonist of the Creative Jazz ( soprano and alto saxophone), who is also active as a composer.

Life and work

Person, the son of saxophonist Thomas Person, began seven years the game on the saxophone; He received his first lessons from his father and at the high school. He studied at the conservatory of his native city, with Dave Liebman and John Purcell. In 1982 he moved to New York City, where he played in the big band of John Hicks from 1984 to 1987 in the " Decoding Society " by Ronald Shannon Jackson, but in parallel also at Chico Hamilton (until 1994). In the next few years he worked with Vernon Reid, McCoy Tyner, Woody Shaw, Allan Gumbs Onaje, David Murray and Jackie McLean. In 1993, he is the World Saxophone Quartet successor of James Spaulding; between 1994 and 1998 he played with Dave Holland. The mid-1990s he formed his group " Meta -Four " and began a series of solo performances; next he was playing in a duo with Michael Carvin and directed together with Michiel Borstlap a band. He also worked on the one hand for Ben Harper, Ofra Haza and Bootsy Collins, on the other hand, Quincy Jones, Joe Chambers and Ronnie Burrage.
