Erich Gamma

Erich Gamma ( born 1961 in Zurich ) is a Swiss computer scientist. He became known as the co-author of the book " Design Patterns - Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software " design patterns, which he wrote based on his dissertation with Richard Helm, Ralph Johnson and John Vlissides - the Gang of Four ( Gang Of Four) called. Gamma was a distinguished engineer in the Rational Software division of IBM Software Group in Zurich, where he Jazz / Rational Team Concert worked on the project. Previously, he led the development of the open development environment Eclipse. Since 1 August 2011, Gamma for the Microsoft Corporation operates as a Distinguished Engineer. In this role, he leads a team in Zurich, which supports the production of the Microsoft Development Environment Microsoft Visual Studio.

Gamma doctorate at the University of Zurich in computer science. He worked as a software engineer at UBILAB ( Research Laboratory of the Swiss Bank Corporation, now UBS ) and from 1993 to 1995 Taligent. Gamma was one of the main developers of ET , a portable C class library for developing interactive, graphical applications. Together with Kent Beck, he implemented JUnit for Java.
