Ernst-Hugo Järegård

Ernst- Hugo Järegård ( born December 12, 1928 in Ystad, † September 6, 1998 in Lidingö in Stockholm ) was a Swedish actor. He achieved international fame was known for the role of Dr. Helmer in the rotated by Lars von Trier television series The Kingdom.

Biography

Born in Ystad Järegård earned the reputation of being one of the outstanding actor at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm from 1962. There he excelled in many well-known roles. Among other things, in 1963 as an eccentric Hitler in Bertolt Brecht Schweik in the Second World War, in 1966, Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot, in 1967 as Orgon in Molière's Tartuffe and many more.

Järegård had a penchant for the representation of rogues and villains, and gladly took appropriate roles. Less frequently, he played lyrical roles. Due to its expressive singing voice he occasionally played with even in musicals. Because of its pronounced Scanian accent, he was also a popular speaker in cartoons and in the recording of children's audio books.

International Järegård became known for his role of Dr. Helmer in Lars von Trier's television series The Kingdom. For von Trier, he was also in the film Europe before the camera. Overall, he played in about 20 films and 40 television productions.

For his work as a theater actor Järegård was founded in 1967 with the Thaliapriset and 1975 with the Eugene O'Neill Award, two of the most important Swedish theater prices, excellent.

Järegård was married since 1950 with Karin Nordström, with whom he had a son, John. He died in 1998 from cancer.

Personality

Järegård had a colorful personality and loved it attract attention by its originality. He paid close attention to his appearance and wore in their private lives with fondness garments Italian designers. In his view, an actor represented not only themselves, but as a public person known to the theater and art as such. Therefore, he considered it his duty to act accordingly in public.
