Erri De Luca

Erri, actually Hary De Luca ( born May 20, 1950 in Naples ) is an Italian writer and translator.

Biography

At the age of eighteen years goes Erri De Luca in 1968 to Rome to adapt to the extra-parliamentary movement Lotta Continua ( Eng.: The struggle continues ) to participate. In the 1970s he became one of its leading lights.

After that, he worked in numerous professions in Italy and abroad - as skilled workers at Fiat, drivers, warehouse worker and a bricklayer. During the war in Yugoslavia, he is involved as a driver of relief supplies for the population. He teaches himself various languages ​​at, including ancient Hebrew, which makes him the translation of some books of the Bible into Italian.

Only at the age of 39 years he published in 1989 his first book, Non ora, non qui ( Not here, not now ), in which he calls his childhood in Naples in memory. Since his works are regularly translated into French, he receives between 1994 and 2002 a number of awards in France: the 1994 Prix France Culture on Aceto, arcobaleno, 2000 the Prix Laure battalion for Tre Cavalli and 2002, the Prix Femina Etranger for Montedidio. 2010 De Luca is proportionately awarded the Petrarch Prize.
