Gabriele Mirabassi

Gabriele Mirabassi ( born September 16, 1967 in Perugia ) is an Italian ( Jazz ) clarinetist. He is the brother of jazz pianist Giovanni Mirabassi.

Life and work

Mirabassi studied to 1986 contemporary classical music at the Conservatorio F. Morlacchi. He first emerged as the interpreter of contemporary classical music. With other musicians, he founded the L' Artisanat Furteux ensemble, which was active until 1992, 1986. He performed regularly with the Ensemble dei Quaderni Perugini di Musica Contemporanea, Ensemble Veni from Bratislava and the Ensemble Musica Negativa from Frankfurt and worked with musicians such as John Cage, Gunther Schuller, Jürg Wittenbach, Siegfried Palm, Louis Andriessen and Rainer Riehn.

Since 1992, he worked with jazz musicians such as Richard Galliano, Stefano Battaglia, Enrico Pieranunzi, Riccardo Zegna and especially Battista Lena and appeared at international jazz festivals. He was elected to Italy Musician of the Year 1996. For the album Duty Free 1997, he received the Prize of the German Record Critics. With accordionist Luciano Biondini and the tuba player Michel Godard, he founded his own trio. In the Umbria Jazz Festival in 2001 he presented his project off Brazil Pixinguinha. In the same year he was together with Biondi and Godard member of the band by Rabih Abou- Khalil.
