Enrico Pieranunzi

Enrico Pieranunzi ( born December 5, 1949 in Rome ) is an Italian jazz pianist, composer and arranger.

Life and work

Pieranunzi started early, playing the piano and was guided to his father Alvaro, a guitarist, jazz. He studied classical piano and in 1973 teacher at the Conservatory in Frosinone, but devoted himself alongside jazz and abdicated in 1975 with his own groups, mostly in the trio; his debut album was released in the same year at Horo. Musically, he is influenced by Bill Evans, about whom he wrote a book (published by Stampa Publisher 2001 in Italian and English and in French in 2004 ). To date ( 2007), he has recorded about 60 CDs. He played among other things with Art Farmer, Phil Woods, Charlie Haden, Chet Baker, Enrico Rava, Paul Motian, Lee Konitz, Billy Higgins, Jim Hall, Kenny Clarke, Frank Rosolino, Johnny Griffin, but also took on solo. In 2004, he toured in Japan in Trio with Joey Baron and Marc Johnson. As a composer he is, for example, represented by several compositions in the New Real Book by Chuck Sher.

1992 and 1997 he won the Django d' Or ( France) Best European Jazz Musician and 2003, the Django d'Or (Italy). From the Italian newspaper Musica Jazz 1989 he was voted the best Italian jazz musician of the year.
