Roberto Gatto

Roberto Gatto ( born October 6, 1958 in Rome ) is an Italian jazz drummer and composer.

Life and work

Gatto had his debut in 1975 with the " Trio di Roma " with pianist Danilo Rea and bassist Enzo Pietropaoli. Since then he has evolved as a sideman and with his own groups to an important personality of the Italian jazz scene. He played among other things Dave Liebman, James Moody, Phil Woods, Tony Scott, Albert Mangelsdorff, Kai Winding, Curtis Fuller, Richard Galliano, Mal Waldron, Enrico Pieranunzi, John Abercrombie, Pat Metheny, Joe Zawinul, Joe Lovano, Didier Lockwood, Bobby Hutcherson and John Scofield. As a leader he has released nine albums to 2008, first in 1986 " Notes" ( Gala ) with Michael Brecker and Danilo Rea.

1985 and 1987 culminated with the group led by him with " Lingomania " first place in the jazz poll of the magazine " Musica Jazz".

He is Artistic Director of Jazz Festival " Alta Valle del Potenza ".
