Esmé Stewart, 3rd Duke of Lennox

Esmé Stewart ( * ca 1579, † 30 July 1624), was a Scottish nobleman from the Stewart family.

Life

Stewart was a son of Esmé Stewart, 1st Duke of Lennox, and his wife Catherine de Balsac. Since 1583 he was the seigneur d' Aubigny 7. 1619 Stewart was raised to the Earl of March.

In the year of his death he followed his brother Ludovic, who had died without legitimate offspring, as Duke of Lennox.

Esmé Stewart was patron and supporter of the writer Ben Jonson, who lived in his household for a few years.

Progeny

Stewart married in 1609 Catherine ( 1592-1637 ), daughter of Gervais Clifton, 1st Lord Clifton, with whom he had the following children:
