Essendon, Victoria

Essendon is a suburb of the Australian city of Melbourne. He belongs to the administrative area Moonee Valley City.

The area around Essendon was originally inhabited by Aboriginal people of the tribe of the Kulin. 1856 a post office was opened. 1871 a railway connection to Melbourne was established.

The well-known documentary filmmaker Stephen Robert Irwin (1962-2006) comes from Essendon.
