Essex Road railway station

Essex Road is an underground station in London's Canonbury, part of the London Borough of Islington. He is on the Northern City Line in Travelcard Zone 2, at the intersection of Main Street Essex Road, Canonbury Road and New North Road. It is the only railway station in London in a deep tunnel in which hold no subway trains. Instead, run commuter trains from First Capital Connect. Like all stations on the Northern City Line is also Essex Road closed on weekends. In 2011 there were 0.474 million passengers the station.

History

Was opened the station on February 14, 1904 by the Great Northern & City Railway ( GN & CR) at the mostly underground connection between Finsbury Park and Moorgate. About the new route should be approached directly in the City of London Quick and suburban trains of the Great Northern Railway, which is why the clearance profile of the tunnel was much wider than in the metros. From 1913 to 1933, the track was part of the Metropolitan line, after the nationalization of an independently operated branch line of the Northern Line.

On 4 October 1975, the line was temporarily shut down and transferred to the state railway company British Rail, which undertook several conversions. On August 8, 1976, the re- opening of the station Essex Road, exactly three months later the entire route between Finsbury Park and Moorgate. After the privatization of British Rail in 1994 West Anglia Great Northern WAGN took over the company, since April 1, 2006, First Capital Connect responsibility.
