The Estadio Hernán Ramírez Villegas is a football stadium in the Colombian city of Pereira. It can accommodate 38,500 spectators and serves the club Deportivo Pereira as homestead.

History

The Estadio Hernán Ramírez Villegas, Pereira, a Colombian town with about half a million inhabitants in the west of the country, between the three largest cities of Colombia Bogotá, Medellín and Cali, was built in 1971 and still opened in the same year. Since the completion of the sports facility of Deportivo Pereira plays its home matches at the stadium. The club won the football championship of Colombia never yet, the only major trophy in their history is the first place in the Categoría Primera B in 2000. Currently the club plays in the Categoría Primera A, the top division in Colombian football.

In 2001, the Copa América was held in Colombia. In the South American Championship Pereira and thus, the Estadio Hernán Ramírez Villegas was a venue. In addition to the Estadio Centenario de Armenia Pereira of the stadium, however, was the second smallest stadium and only two games were played here. In the quarterfinals, defeating the selection of the Mexico Chile 2-0 in the semi-final, Mexico could also claim against Uruguay. In the other semi-final win against Colombia in Manizales Honduras 2-0 and later in Bogota, the Copa América with a 1-0 final victory against Mexico in Estadio Nemesio Camacho.

Ten years later, in 2011 was again held an international tournament in Estadio Hernán Ramírez Villegas. The stadium provided a venue for the U-20 World Cup. For the tournament, the capacity of the stadium was increased from 30,500 to 38,500 seats, and also some modernization work took place. In the first of two group games Ecuador defeated Costa Rica, in the other subject Saudi Arabia Nigeria. In the further course of the tournament took place in Estadio Hernán Ramírez Villegas, a second round (Cameroon defeated Mexico in a penalty shootout ), one quarter-final (Brazil defeated Spain in a penalty shootout ) and a semi-final (Brazil defeated Mexico).
