The Estadio Neza 86 is a football stadium in Nezahualcóyotl, an eastern Mexico City commuter town in the state of Mexico, which is simply called by many Mexicans only Neza. It is located on the grounds of the main campus at the Universidad Tecnológica de Nezahualcóyotl and bears the official name Estadio Universidad Tecnológica de Nezahualcóyotl.

History of the stadium and its users

One of the widespread misinformation about this stadium is that its construction was undertaken primarily to serve as a venue for the discharged in Mexico FIFA World Cup 1986. This assertion, however, is easily refuted by the obvious facts: because the stadium was opened in 1981, during the World Cup award to Mexico occurred only in 1983.

CD Coyotes Neza de

Rather, a suitable stadium was needed to make the Club Deportivo Neza a suitable home ground available; because since the rise of the Mexican Primera División in 1978 had their Erstligaheimspiele dispute under rather makeshift conditions, the Coyotes. Deportivo Neza used the stadium, which first bore the name of José López Portillo and the occasion of the 1986 World Cup was given its present name, from the time of its opening in 1981 until the financially -related withdrawal of the club from the Primera División season to the end of 1987 / 88th

CF Potros Neza

The retreat of the Coyotes Neza de from professional football left a void into which the Club de Fútbol Potros Neza newly formed thrust. To ensure that this club was allowed to start the same in the then second-rate Segunda División, the eligibility for this league was acquired through the purchase of the license of the just from the Primera División relegated teams Correcaminos de la UAT, which had in turn secured the Erstligaspielberechtigung Deportivo Neza. The Potros had conceivable favorable starting conditions, but they managed in their first season 1988/89 right off the bat the sporty climb to the top flight football. But disintegrated this hopeful team after the eligibility for the first division was sold to the CD Veracruz before the start of the 1989/90 season.

Toros Neza

Next hopefuls adherent to the Mexican capital sister city were the Toros Neza, which in 1993 promotion to the Primera División succeeded. But they were immediately confronted in their first season with a hitherto unknown problem in Mexican soccer. The Mexican Football Federation doubted namely the Erstligatauglichkeit the Estadio de Neza (although it was only 12 years old and 7 years previously served as the World Cup arena! ) And left it soon lock for top-flight, so that the Toros were forced 14 home games of the 1993/94 season discharge in Pachuca. After some modernization measures of league football in 1994/95 came back to the Estadio Neza 86 back and remained there until the descent of the Toros in 2000. In the following two years (2000/ 01 and 2001/ 02) found here after all, still second division games instead, as the Toros División 'A' played in the Primera. However, after their license sale to a team called Gavilanes threatened the stadium the vacancy.

CF Atlante

Looking for a new user to found the city in neighboring Mexico -based CF Atlante, who had no own stadium and just enjoyed hospitality in much too large for him Azteca Stadium. Because Atlante played most of its home games in the seasons 2002/ 03 and 2003/ 04 at the Estadio Neza 86, the major league football came back this way after Nezahualcóyotl. However, due to tensions between the Municipality of Nezahualcóyotl and the club's management of the Club Atlante, the Club moved during the Clausura 2004 from the stadium back and completed its home games were again at the Azteca Stadium.

Football World Cup 1986

In 1986, staged in Mexico Football World Cup, the Estadio Neza 86 served as the venue for three group matches in Group E, in which Germany was represented. However, the German national football team completed all group matches at the Estadio La Corregidora in Querétaro, so that here the only group games were played without German participation: Scotland - Denmark (0-1) on June 4, Denmark - Uruguay ( 6-1 ) on 8 June and Scotland - Uruguay ( 0-0) on June 13.

Today's use of the stadium

Moving from Atlante would again means a vacancy of the stadium. To avoid this, a second division license for the 2004/ 05 season has been purchased for the starving CF Potros Neza, but which was sold after just one year on the Tampico - Madero FC. Since then, the city is no longer represented in the three top divisions of the Mexican club football. Therefore, had since begun to leave the Estadio Neza 86 on certain occasions the local football teams in the Águilas Blancas and Burros Blancos. Since the introduction of the new second football league, called Liga de Ascenso in the season 2009/10 the city was first with Potros Neza and since 2011/12 with Toros Neza again represented in professional football.
