European Academy of Sciences and Arts

The European Academy of Sciences and Arts (Latin: Academia Scientiarum et Artium Europaea ) is a European Academy of Sciences.

History

The origins of the Academy go back to a scientific working group, the Salzburg heart surgeon Felix Unger, the Archbishop of Vienna, Cardinal Franz König and the political scientist and philosopher Nikolaus Lobkowicz belonged. On March 7, 1990 it was officially founded in Salzburg. Seat of the Academy is Salzburg.

On 2 March 2013, the annual solemn plenary session of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts was held in Salzburg in the auditorium of the University. Among other things, the President of Croatia Ivo Josipovic, President of Slovenia Borut Pahor and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin were ( represented by Ambassador Sergey Nechayev ) as a protector of the Academy ( Protectors of the Academy) inaugurated.

Self-understanding and membership

The European Academy of Sciences and Arts is politically independent and is funded by public authorities, the Republic of Austria, the European Union and private sponsors; their activity is not aimed at financial gain. The objectives of the Academy are to be achieved through moral and material means. The European Academy of Sciences and Arts sees itself as a scholarly forum that takes an interdisciplinary and cross -border Europe- related topics. It has about 1,500 members as of 2012 from around the world. The members shall be considered recognized top scientists, including Status 2012, according to statistics of the Academy 29 Nobel Prize winners. You can not even apply for membership, but is, for example, due to merit for research and society, nominated by a selection committee and elected by the Senate of the Academy (see also the different releases of new Member recordings from the information service of Sciences - idw - or by the universities ). Therefore Membership is for those affected as a distinction and appreciation of their scientific work.

Known members are, for example, the former Cardinal Walter Kasper, the former Catholic military bishop in Germany and Bishop of Augsburg, Walter Mixa, the North Rhine- Westphalian CDU politician Laschet and Cardinal Karl Lehmann, Bishop of Mainz.

Alma Mater Europaea

In 2013, the Alma Mater Europaea takes - European University for Leadership - the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in Salzburg on their operation. In early 2011, they opened with the Alma Mater Europaea - Evropsko Sredisce Maribor its first branch in Slovenia. In July 2011, the Alma Mater Europaea of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences followed - European University for Leadership with a summer school in St. Gallen ( Switzerland ).
