European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services

The Commissioner for Internal Market and Services is a member of the European Commission. The Internal Market department exists in various cuts since establishing the European Economic Community in 1958, 2004, it was expanded to include the services.

Current office-holders in the Barroso II Commission since 2010, the Frenchman Michel Barnier. Because the resort also includes financial services, the re-regulation from 2007 is part of the objective of the European Union after the financial crisis, it is considered a key department. The nomination of Michel Barnier, who had argued for a stricter supervision was therefore criticized and proposed to divest the financial services provided by the department of the British side. However, Commission President José Manuel Durão Barroso did not follow this requirement.
