Giuseppe Caron

Giuseppe Caron ( born February 24, 1904 in Treviso, † March 3, 1998 ) was an Italian MEP and Vice- President of the EEC Commission.

Life

After his academic training as a chemist Caron led several companies in the Italian pharmaceutical industry. From 1952, he was Vice President of the Italian Chamber of Commerce. In addition, he has held numerous lobbyists functions.

During the Second World War, Caron engaged in resistance against the German occupation. As a representative of Christian Democracy, he was part of the committee for national liberation in the province of Treviso.

Politically, he was first as undersecretary for civil aviation. In the elections to the Italian Senate in 1948, 1953 and 1958 respectively Caron won a mandate. In European politics, he was active as an Italian delegate to the euro and of Europe as a member of the European Parliament.

In December 1959, Caron was appointed to succeed his compatriot Piero Malvestiti in the EEC Commission, Walter Hallstein. Besides serving as Vice President with a focus on the press and information policy of the EEC Caron was responsible for the internal market between the EEC countries, and further, for business and finance, transport and external relations in the first place. As early as 1963 settled Caron back in the Italian Senate vote and was eliminated from the Commission.
