European Parliament Committee on Fisheries
The Committee on Fisheries ( PECH ) is one of the 20 committees of the European Parliament.
The Committee has 37 members and 29 alternate members. Responsible Commissioner is the Maltese Joseph Borġ.
Committee Chairman is present ( term of office 2009-2014), the Spanish MEP Gabriel Mato Adrover (PPE). Vice - Presidents are Struan Stevenson (Scotland CRE), Alain Cadec (France, EPP), Guido Milana (Italy, S & D ) and Carl Haglund (Finland, ALDE).
German members are Alfred Gomolka (EPP ), Georg Jarzembowski (EPP ), Heinz Kindermann ( PSE) and Ulrike Rodust (SPE), German substitute members Böge (EPP ) and Ewa Klamt (EPP ).
Jurisdiction
The responsibilities of the Committee are defined in a self-description as:
" 1 the functioning and development of the common fisheries policy and its management; 2 the conservation of fish stocks; 3 Common organization of the market in fishery products; 4 the structural policy in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors, including the financial instruments for fisheries guidance; 5th international fisheries agreements. "
