European Parliament election, 2014 (France)

The European elections in France in 2014 takes place in the framework of the EU -wide 2014 European elections on 24 and 25 May 2014. In France, 74 out of 751 Members of the European Parliament are elected, two more than in the European elections of 2009.

Electoral system

The election takes place on two days, and only in overseas territories French Polynesia, Saint -Pierre- et- Miquelon, Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, Saint -Barthélemy and Saint- Martin, on 25 May in the whole on 24 May the rest of France will be selected.

The distribution of seats in proportion according to the D' Hondt method with a blocking clause from 5 percent in eight constituencies. The number of seats per constituency is set before each election by decree according to their population numbers. Except in the two largest constituencies, it would be virtually impossible with a vote share of less than 5 percent without blocking clause to gain a mandate. The constituencies are: Nord-Ouest (10 parliamentarians in the European elections 2009), Ouest (9 ), Estonia (9 ), Sud -Ouest (10 ), Sud -Est (13 ), Massif Central -Centre ( 5), Ile- de -France ( 13) and the Overseas Territories (3). With the exception of the constituencies Ile- de -France and overseas constituencies consist of several regions, respectively.
