Eyal Benvenisti

Eyal Benvenisti ( born February 18, 1959 in Jerusalem) is an Israeli lawyer and professor at the University of Tel Aviv.

Education and professional career

The Study of Law graduated Benvenisti 1980 to 1984 at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws. During his studies he worked for Judge Miriam Ben -Porat of the Supreme Court of Israel. After graduating Benvenisti took a year in the PhD program at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in part, before he moved to Yale University. 1988 Master of Laws, he was awarded there. 1990 Benvenisti was finally his doctorate with a thesis in the field of international law to the Juris Doctor. In the same year he was appointed as Hersch Lauterpacht Professor at his alma mater. He held until 2002, this professorship. During this time he spent several research stays in Germany include the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg and at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich. In addition, he held visiting professorships at Columbia, Harvard and the University of Michigan. In 2002, Benvenisti at the University of Tel Aviv, on the Anny and Paul Yanowicz Professor of Human Rights. In this position, he worked as a visiting professor and taught at the Universities of Pennsylvania, New York and at the Hague Academy of International Law. Benvenisti conducts research especially in the field of international and constitutional law and administrative law.

Awards and Memberships (Selection)

Benvenisti from 1994 to 1998 Member of the International Law Commission. Since 2009 he is co-editor of the American Journal of International Law and is a member since 2008 of the Venice Commission. In 2011 he was admitted as an associate member of the Institut de Droit International. In 1997 Ferenc Deák Prize of the American Journal of International Law, he was awarded.
