Fabio Pasini

Fabio Pasini ( born August 23, 1980 in Gazzaniga ) is an Italian cross country skier and sports soldier.

Life and career

Fabio Pasini, like his more successful brother Renato specializes in sprint competitions. In his first international competition, the Junior World Championships in 2000 in Štrbské Pleso he reached the finals, finishing in 27th place. His first try at the Cross Country World Cup had Pasini in the sprint World Cup in January 2001 in the domestic Asiago. While his brother was able to occupy the seventh place, he failed as the 39th of 42 athletes started in qualifying. In February 2004, during his third World Cup competition, he reached the sprint in Pragelato the finals and won his first World Cup as 28 points. Then it was used during the 2004/ 05 season in the World Cup more frequently. Although it may often not able to qualify to get through to him, he was nominated the Italian Winter Sports Federation for the Nordic World Ski Championships 2005 in Oberstdorf. Surprisingly, he reached the quarter- finals and was the best Italian sprinter the 23th Place. At the end of the season he reached in Reit im Winkl with number 22 had hitherto been his best finish in the World Cup.

In the following years, Pasini was only rarely used in the World Cup. Only at the beginning of 2008/ 09, which started with good results especially for his brother, he got to compete against the world's elite in Davos a new opportunity. While his brother Renato third place achieved his best result of the season, Fabio Pasini held, with 17th place his best career result. A week later in Dusseldorf, he followed the example of his brother and came behind the Norwegians Ola Vigen Hattestad Tor Arne Hetland and an unexpected third place.
