Fatin Rüştü Zorlu

Fatin Rüştü Zorlu (* 1912 in Istanbul, † September 16, 1961 on the island of İmralı ) was a Turkish diplomat, politician and 1957-1960 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey.

Life

Fatin was born in Istanbul. His family was originally from Zor, a village in the province of Artvin. After graduating from Galatasaray High School Zorlu studied Political Science at the Institut d' études politiques de Paris in France and at the University of Geneva in Switzerland.

Back in Turkey began Zorlu in 1932 his career as a diplomat. From 1938 on, he served at various posts in the embassies and consulates in Berne, Paris, Moscow and Beirut. After Turkey's accession to NATO (1952 ), he was appointed Turkish Ambassador to NATO.

1954 Zorlu was elected as a deputy of Çanakkale Democrat particles in the parliament. He served as Deputy Prime Minister 1954-1955 and as foreign minister from 1957 to 1960, until the Turkish Armed Forces on May 27, 1960 deposed the government of Prime Minister Adnan Menderes.

In the Yassıada processes Zorlu was sentenced to death and hanged on September 16, 1961, together with Hasan Polatkan on the prison island İmralı. The execution of the death sentence against Adnan Menderes was followed a day later.
