Field Fountain St. Niklaus is a municipality in the district of livers of the canton Solothurn in Switzerland.

Geography

Field Fountain St. Niklaus is situated on 452 m above sea level. M., 2 km north-east of the main town Canton of Solothurn (air line). The municipality extends on a terrace north of the River Aare, at the foot of the Jura east of Verena creek, in the Solothurn Plateau.

The area of ​​2.5 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Solothurn midlands. The southern boundary runs along the Aare. From here, the communal land extends northward along the gravel terrace of field wells, which is bounded on the west by the small valley of the brook Verena, and the plateau of the Spies Sacher ( 485 m above sea level. M. ) to the adjacent forest heights of Verena chain. This chain is a small chain of white stone upstream Jura fold. With 919 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) field Fountain St. Niklaus is one of the smaller communities of the Canton of Solothurn. Economy

Field wells Sankt Niklaus was until the mid 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture village. Today, the farming and fruit growing and cattle breeding have only a minor role in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available, including companies in the information technology, the construction industry and the marketing. In recent decades, the village has developed thanks to its attractive location into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the Solothurn region. History

The first written mention of the village on the present municipality took place in 1182, when the existence of a settlement called Wedelswile was documented in writing. This hamlet was the origin of Sankt Niklaus, but was destroyed in 1375 by the Guglern. The rebuilt town was now called based on the Nicholas Chapel of St Niklaus. Field wells is first mentioned in 1319 as Velbrunnen; 1455, the name comes Felbrunnen.

The area of Sankt Niklaus and field well under stood in the middle ages the St. Urs pin in Solothurn in 1344 and came to the city of Solothurn, which from then on both the low and the high jurisdiction exercised. Attractions

Intermediate field wells and Sankt Niklaus is the Waldegg Castle, which is one of the most beautiful Baroque buildings in the canton.
