Felix Eugenio Mkhori

Felix Eugenio Mkhori ( born August 24, 1931 in Mtenje; † 27 October 2012 in Blantyre ) was Bishop of Lilongwe.

Life

Felix Mkhori received by his philosophical and theological training on 8 September 1961, the ordination.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on 29 September 1977 in Bishop Chikwawa and Titular Bishop of Sicca Veneria. The Bishop of Chikwawa, Eugen Joseph Frans Vroemen SMM, donated to him on January 8, 1978 in the Cathedral of Limbe episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Matthias A. Chimole, Bishop of Lilongwe, and James Chiona, Archbishop of Blantyre.

John Paul II appointed him on 12 February 1979 Bishop of Chikwawa. On January 23, 2001, he was appointed Bishop of Lilongwe. He was active in the Association of Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa ( AMECEA ). Mkhori from 1994 to 2000 Chairman of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi ( Episcopal Conference of Malawi ( ECM) ).

Work

He sat down repeatedly for human rights in Malawi; he was with seven bishops signers of the Declaration "Living in our Faith", which was directed against the human rights violations and abuse of power of the regime of dictator Hastings Kamuzu Banda. He and the other bishops was then placed under house arrest and sentenced to death.

Mkhori was considered an important mediator between the different ethnic and religious groups in Malawi and supporters of the Public Affairs Committee (PAC).

Bishop Mkhori visited in 2003 at the invitation of Bishop Leo Nowak, the diocese of Magdeburg.
