Fender Jagstang

The Fender Jagstang is designed by Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and Fender electric guitar.

Formation

Kurt Cobain played usually the Fender Mustang. However, some aspects of the Fender Jaguar he liked them as well. So when he was asked as a perfect guitar for him should look, he took photos of two guitars, then glued the top of the jaguar on the underside of the Mustang and said, " So" The name Jag - stang is the abbreviation of the two guitar models Jag Jag - uar = Stang = Mu - stang

Larry Brooks and Mark Wittenberg by Fender met then with Cobain and talked about the exact implementation. Brooks says:

" He ( Kurt ) was really easy to work with. I had a chance to sit and talk with him, then we built a prototype. He played it a while and then wrote some suggestions on the guitar and sent it back to us. The second time around, we got it right " ( " With Kurt could work well. , I had the opportunity to am down with him and talk, then we built the prototype. He played him for a while, then he wrote a few suggestions on the guitar and sent it back. at the second time we get it right. " )

The prototype had a Fender Texas Special single-coil at the neck and a DiMarzio H-3 humbucker. He also had a Mustang neck, because this Cobain liked best.

After Cobain's request, the Jagstang was built in two colors: Sonic Blue and Fiesta Red Cobain got the blue version and used it several times on the " In Utero " tour.

Construction

Since Kurt Cobain died in April 1994, no further changes were made to the guitar. However, it was not supplied with the pickups described above, but with the cheaper Fender replicas.

The guitar has a very narrow neck, although the rhythm guitarist is very good playable, but is likely to be too narrow for soloists. The body is made of basswood, the maple neck.

More history

From 1995 to the Jagstang in Japan was produced. On 11 April 2001 Fender had announced that it would cease production of the Jagstang. In summer 2003, Fender said at the NAMM show that the Jagstang is laid back and can be ordered from Fender dealers. In January 2005, the reissue series has been discontinued. Currently there are no plans for a re-edition of Jagstang.

The first edition of Jagstang differs as well as not the Reissue. A small sticker on the back head with the inscription " Designed by Kurt Cobain " helps to distinguish. 1996 Jagstangs do not have a 50 year anniversary Sticker by Fender. At the end of the neck is at the inaugural "Made in Japan ", in the new edition, however, " Crafted in Japan ". To determine the age of the serial number can be consulted.
