Feni District

The District Feni ( Bengali: ফেনী জেলা, Pheni Jela ) is an administrative unit in southeastern Bangladesh, which lies within the Division Chittagong. The largest city in the district is the district capital of the same name Feni.

The 928.34 km ² large district is bordered to the north by the neighboring district of the Indian state of Tripura and Kumilla, which also lies to the east. To the south of the district of Feni districts bordering the Chittagong and Noakhali which is also west.

The main rivers are the Feni and Muhuri ( "little Feni ").

The only in 1984 created administrative district Feni is administratively divided into six so-called Upazilas: Chhangalnaiya, Daganbhuiyan, Feni Sadar, Parshuram, Phulgazi and Sonagazi. Within this administrative subdivision, there are two self-governing cities ( municipalities ), 45 Union Parishads (village councils) and 570 villages.

The area around the region has a long rich history ( about 3,000 years). In addition, some well-known personalities from the district come, including the 1991-1996 and since 2001, incumbent Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

A significant number of the population is mostly immigrated for economic reasons.
