Fernandão

Fernando Lúcio da Costa - often only referred to briefly Fernandão - (born 18 March 1978 in Goiânia ) is a former Brazilian football coach and former international footballer.

Playing career

Association

The 1,90 m tall striker began his professional career in 1997 at the Goiás Esporte Clube in his native city. In 2001 he moved to France to Marseille and completed 61 games for the club. In 2003 he was loaned to FC Toulouse in 2004 and returned back to Brazil to play for the SC Internacional of Porto Alegre.

With Internacional, he reached the second place in the Campeonato Brasileiro 2005. In the same year he came to his first race in the national team, in a game against Guatemala.

In 2006, he led Internacional as captain to victory in the Copa Libertadores. Fernandão was top scorer in the Copa and was voted best player of the final, where he scored one goal and another prepared. In December 2006 he won with Internacional FIFA Club World Cup. In 2008 he moved to Qatari club Al- Gharafa.

After one season, he returned to Brazil and was still playing for Goiás EC and São Paulo FC.

National

In the 2005 season Fernandão was once used in the Brazilian national football team.

Trainer-/Managerkarriere

In July 2011 Fernandão ended his active career and was sports director at SC Internacional. After a year he was head coach of the club after Dorival Júnior had been dismissed.
