Fernando Orsi

Fernando Orsi ( born September 12, 1959 in Rome ) is a retired Italian footballer and current coach.

Playing career

Fernando Orsi began his career as a goalkeeper in his hometown club AS Roma, in which he has not used in his first season, 1978/79 in the first team. His professional debut was only in the following season at AC Siena in Serie C2. After one season at Siena he went to Parma, where he played until he joined in 1982 regularly. His first game in Serie A Orsi played until 1982 with Lazio, for which he played from 1982 to 1985 and as a substitute keeper from 1989 until his resignation in 1998. However, most of duty games ( 125), he played for AC Arezzo, where he played from 1985 to 1989.

Coaching career

2002 Orsi began coaching career, he was at Lazio assistant coach on the side of Roberto Mancini. As Mancini went to Inter Milan two years later, also Orsi came as an assistant coach at Inter. After four years as an assistant coach Orsi left Inter in 2006, to prepare for his career as a head coach. There were rumors that he takes over as coach at AC Arezzo. Somewhat surprisingly Orsi was eventually coach a Serie A team AS Livorno in which he signed a contract until the summer of 2008. He replaced Daniele Arrigoni, who was fired after a 0-4 defeat at Udinese for the second time in as many months at Livorno. Orsi began promising debut with a 4-1 victory of his team over Catania Calcio. Orsi finally reached the end of the season the objective set by the Bureau minimum goal in the league. In the 2007 /08 season his team was able to achieve only two draws in the first seven games of the season, so that Orsi was released on 9 October 2007 and replaced by Giancarlo Camolese. After Livorno had slipped back to the last place on Matchday 35 of the 2007/08 season, Livorno changed again the coach and Orsi replaced on an interim basis until the end of the season his successor. Orsi but could not avoid relegation in the remaining three games, so that his contract was not renewed.
