FIDES Bank Namibia

FIDES Bank Namibia is a commercial bank in Namibia.

The FIDES Bank Namibia received the provisional banking license on 4 August 2009, the permanent license on February 1, 2010. Institution headquartered in Ongwediva in the Oshana region.

Established as the first microfinance bank since independence - and as one of five commercial banks - has received a banking license from the Bank of Namibia (National Regulator banking) FIDES Bank Namibia.

History

The FIDES Bank Namibia has emerged from the pilot project Koshi Yomuti ELO. From 2002 until the founding of the Bank in 2010, the aim of this project was the development of microfinance activities for the rural population. The focus was on the support of income- generating business activities of this customer segment.

The project originally started in the Ohangwena region and extended from the direction of Ondangwa in 2005, Oshakati in 2006 and Outapi in 2007.

At the foundation of the Bank 's credit portfolio of the pilot project was transferred to the new institution. At the same time began to build a portfolio for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs ).

Activities

FIDES Bank Namibia is active in two product segments:

  • Financing of revenue generating scenarios eden activities ( microfinance ): The goal is to make savings and credit transactions of a clientele available, most of which lives in rural areas of the country. The development of this activity is based on a group method and is almost exclusively taken from the part of the population claim, which is excluded from the formal Namibian banking system.
  • Micro, small and medium enterprise financing: The aim of the semi- formal and formal businesses, which are not normally covered by traditional banks.

The end of 2012 had FIDES Bank Namibia approximately 11,000 clients and a little more than 650 microfinance groups.

Geographical presence and branch network

FIDES Bank Namibia is represented in the four ' O' regions in northern Namibia Namibia ( Ohangwena, Omusati, Oshana and Oshikoto ). The first store opened in early 2010 in Oshakati, three more were opened in Ondangwa, Oshikango and Outapi. The bank plans to open a branch in Katutura.

Ownership

The FIDES Bank Namibia was in the hands of four shareholders in the beginning.

  • Swiss Microfinance Holding ( 30.05% );
  • KfW ( 24.90% );
  • Investisseurs et Partenaires pour le développement from France ( 22.45% ); and
  • The French cooperative bank Crédit Coopératif (10.00 % - since 2011 )
