Ongwediva is a town of about 11,000 inhabitants in the Oshana Region in North Central Namibia, Oshakati and Ondangwa, together with the second- largest urban agglomeration in Namibia ( Windhoek ). The town is located about 6 km east of Oshakati on the National Road B1. In the same constituency Ongwediva live 27,000 inhabitants. The population growth is 3.5% per year.

In Ongwediva place every year with the Ongwediva Trade Fair held the third largest exhibition of Namibia.

The city has a government hospital, the Ongwediva Medi Park as well as 13 public and two private schools and secondary educational institutions. In addition, there are seven churches.

Ongwediva is the headquarters of the FIDES Bank Namibia, the first microfinance bank in the country.

History

Ongwediva arose during the time of the Namibian struggle for independence and was founded in the 60s by the South African armed forces. The city offers a comparable high quality of life and growing since independence into a major urban center.
