Figueira ( Portuguese for: fig tree ) is a Portuguese village in the municipality ( Freguesia ) of Sobreira Formosa, in a circle ( concelho ) of Proença- a-Nova.

Geography

Figueira is located 2 km south of Sobreira Formosa, about 10 km east of the county town Proença- a-Nova, and about 40 km west of the district capital of Castelo Branco.

Culture and sights

The village is one of the traditional slate villages of the region, and is part of the route of the nationally advertised aldeias do xisto. It is distinguished by its surviving buildings. Marked hiking paths through the unspoilt nature of the surrounding area have been created, and near the river pool Praia Fluvial is because Froia.

In place of one of the shops ( Portuguese: Lojas ) is the aldeias do xisto furnished, and the Casa da Ti'Augusta a restaurant and a hostel of rural tourism is managed in place. The house also find occasional performances, such as a concert by Rob Brown and Daniel Levin on 14 November 2012 as part of the jazz festival Ciclo de Jazz the aldeias do xisto.
