Figueirense Futebol Clube

The Figueirense Futebol Clube, usually called only Figueirense, is a football club established in 1921 in Florianópolis, the capital of the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina.

The name Figueirense refers to the former district Figueira, where the meetings were held for the foundation of the association and is the part of today's city center. There was a fig tree ( Portuguese: Figueira ) for decades, which is also depicted in the coat of arms since 1970. The club colors are black and white.

The club plays at the 20,000 -seat stadium Orlando Scarpelli, which was officially opened on 12 June 1960 the 39th anniversary of the association. Although the club was founded on the island, the stadium in Estreito district is on the mainland.

The biggest rival of the association is the other big club from Florianópolis, the Avaí FC.

Figueirense played from 2002 to 2008 in the first Brazilian league, the Série A, and had to end up on goal difference in the Série B absteiegen. 2010 managed the team to rise again in the Série A. However, in the 2012 season, the club was the last one off again.
