Michel Fernandes Bastos (born 2 August 1983 Pelotas ) is a Brazilian footballer who also has French citizenship. He currently stands at al Ain Club under contract, but has been playing in January 2014 on loan at AS Roma.

Clubs

Beginnings and time in the Netherlands

Bastos comes from the youth department of the EC Pelotas. In summer 2001, the then 18- year-old midfielder moved to Europe for the Dutch club Feyenoord Rotterdam. After his first season there, he was lent to the Erstligaaufsteiger Excelsior Rotterdam in the city to get some match practice. But his breakthrough did not make Bastos in Europe at this time. He did not get beyond the Joker role and could rarely convince.

Brazil

After two years in the Netherlands, he therefore went back to Brazil, where he played half a year for Atlético Paranaense and was subsequently awarded for one year at Gremio and Figueirense FC. OSC Lille

In summer 2006, Bastos was for three million euros to the French first division club Lille OSC. National

Despite good performance in Lille Bastos was not nominated until 2009 for the national team of Brazil. It was not until his move to Lyon brought him into focus by the then coach Carlos Dunga.
