2012–13 Ligue 1

The Ligue 1 2012/13 was the 75th season of the highest French league in football. It began on 11 August 2012 and ended on 26 May 2013. Titleholder was the HSC Montpellier.

Men

The season was contested by 20 teams; the 17 best of the season 2011/12 were the three newly promoted Ligue 2 2011/12.

No longer were there the three relegated last season, SM Caen, Dijon FCO and AJ Auxerre. The initial descent from the highest French Auxerre League ended a 32 -year-long membership of the club to the Division 1 1/Ligue Caen and Dijon returned after two and one year respectively in the Ligue 2 back.

Promoted from Ligue 2 were the SC Bastia and Stade Reims and Troyes AC. Of the three climbers ended Reims the longest series without Erstligazugehörigkeit; the club was represented for the first time since the 1978/79 season back in the top French league. Bastia returned after seven years' absence and two successive climbs back into the top league. ESTAC eventually rose after five seasons in the second and third division again, but could not hold on this season, the class.

The unofficial autumn championship secured the overwhelming favorites Paris, but only thanks to the better goal against the tied teams from Lyon and Marseille. In the last three places went Sochaux, the only climber Troyes and Nancy in the second half. After completion of the 36th day Paris and Marseille were the first place the runner computationally no more to take, while the rear Brest could reach no more non- relegation zone. Before the final day was clear of relegation for Nancy; these two had to accompany the newcomer from Troyes.
