Course of the season

As early as March 2013 Zagłębie Lubin was occupied by the Polish Football Association with a points deduction of three points. This was due to the match fixing of the club on the final day of the 2005/06 season in the game against Cracovia Krakow ( 0-0). The draw secured the club a place in the UEFA Cup in 2006/07. In mid-July the traditional club Polonia Warsaw was sold to the entrepreneur Ireneusz Król. For the equivalent of about 1.25 million euros this bought the club from former owner Józef Wojciechowski. However, the club retained the rights to the logo and the name, so a new start in the 4th league should be possible. The new first division club should be called KP Katowice. A planned merger with the second division club GKS Katowice failed. Finally, the new owner decided to continue with the club as Polonia Warsaw to compete in the Ekstraklasa. On 14 Round Legia Warsaw was after a 3-0 victory against Ruch Chorzów fixed as autumn champions. With 33 points Legia led the table with four points clear before Lech Poznan. In the relegation places were GKS Belchatow and Podbeskidzie Bielsko with just six points from 15 games already reached nine points away from safety shore. On May 25, 2013 Legia Warsaw was after a 1-1 draw against Widzew Łódź two games remaining as champions of the season 2012/13 fixed. The runner- Lech Poznań lost Matchday 0-2 against Podbeskidzie Bielsko- Biała, so Legia Warsaw won six points and also the direct comparison. Three days later, then got the financially troubled club Polonia Warsaw by the Polish Football Association no license for next season, so the club was established as the first relegated. Thus had seen athletic dismount only the last of the Ekstraklasa. The decision was not made until the relegated on the final day, after the first round after GKS Belchatow severed far and Podbeskidzie Bielsko- Biała in the second half started a furious comeback. Before the last game was GKS Belchatow last with 28 points, Podbeskidzie Bielsko- Biała second last with 29 points and Ruch Chorzów third from bottom with 31 points. While GKS Belchatow and Podbeskidzie Bielsko won their last game, lost Ruch Chorzów on the final day. Thus Podbeskidzie Bielsko- Biała was rescued with 32 points and GKS Belchatow and Ruch Chorzów, each with 31 points at end of table. Because of a tie, the direct comparison of counts, thus Ruch Chorzów was second to last and GKS Belchatow dismounted, as Ruch Chorzów won the games 2-1 and 3-0 for itself. While Master Legia Warsaw is qualified for the Champions League qualification, the Second Lech Poznan and the third Slask Wroclaw for the Europa League qualification qualified. Since the Cup Winners' Cup Legia Warsaw and the finalist Slask Wrocław both had qualified via the league for an international competition, the fourth- and Movers Piast Gliwice moved more than participants in the Europa League qualification after.
