2008–09 Ekstraklasa
The Ekstraklasa 2008/ 09 was the 75th edition of the top Polish league in football. It took place until 30 May 2009 of August 8, 2008. 16 teams played a total of 30 game days divided into a back and a second round each against each other twice. For a victory, there were three, one for a draw and a defeat for no point. Master was at the end of the season the team with the most points descend, were bound to the two teams with the least points.
From the 2nd league 2007/ 08 four clubs had risen: Lechia Gdańsk, Wrocław Slask, Piast Gliwice and Arka Gdynia which replaced the relegated Widzew Łódź, and the three offenses punished by corruption scandal clubs Zagłębie Sosnowiec, Zagłębie Lubin and Korona Kielce.
From the Ekstraklasa 2008/ 09, the Polish champions qualified for the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League 2009/10. In the UEFA Europa League 2009/10 runners-up will start (third qualifying round), third-placed (second qualifying round ) and Cup Winners' Cup by the case of the fourth-placed (first round). As Lech Poznan has won the Polish Cup, the club will start in the third qualifying round and runner- Legia Warsaw in the second qualifying round.
Decisions
Polish Champion 2008/ 09 was Wisla Krakow, Legia Warsaw was runner-up. For the UEFA Europa League, Lech Poznan. Polonia Warsaw was able to secure the fourth place by the European Cup victory of Lech Poznan.
Sports were relegated Cracovia Krakow and Gornik Zabrze, which the league could not be realized on the last match day. However, LKS Lodz was set to the last place of the table and the license revoked, so Cracovia Krakow at the end at the green table secured the league. The traditional club Gornik Zabrze, however, was relegated to the Second Division. Likewise, the second division champions Widzew was the license and therefore the rise in the Ekstraklasa denied; an objection from Widzew against this decision was rejected. The planned relegation matches took place.
Due to the aforementioned situation, the following were promoted: Zaglebie Lubin and Korona Kielce
